about me

Nix pic 2.JPG

I have spent much of my professional life as an actor, director, theatre-maker, and lecturer after graduating from Dartington College Of Arts with BA (hons) Theatre in 1989.

As a creative professional I have worked throughout the UK and in Europe, in small, mid and large scale companies, in ensemble, in repertory theatre. Alongside my performance work I've spent many years as a lecturer and subject lead in FE and HE.

I have always worked closely with people of all ages helping them to develop their skills, find their path in life and move towards fulfilling their cherished dreams and goals.

I have explored the subject of voice for many years, using a wide range of voice techniques and prior to 2013, those developed by Kristin Linklater. I trained in Estill Voice levels 1&2 at the Royal Academy Of Music in June 2013 and continue to train in voice  with an Estill Mentor to further develop and challenge my knowledge and understanding in voice anatomy and vocal technique. I am currently working towards Estill Figures proficiency (EFP) and plan to continue on to Estill Master Teacher in future.

Most recently in the last two years I have been almost exclusively exploring voice with trans and non-binary clients. I was awarded a D.Y.C.P. (Develop Your Creative Practice) grant from the Arts Council England in 2020 to develop this work. I worked with an initial pilot group of people from March to July 2021 and the work was a great success. I have quoted from some of the participants below

I continue to collaborate closely with trans and non binary colleagues to develop the work further.

‘I feel my voice has lightened and more befits my image now’

‘My pitch is better now and I am better able to control my resonance’

‘I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, and Nix is such a lovely person to work with. Thank you so much!’

‘Nix was great throughout, really felt we made a lot more progress than I possibly imagined’

‘I would very happily recommend Find Your Voice to everyone!’

‘A few of us from Safe Haven were fortunate enough to participate in the 'pilot' for this training.  I know that I speak for all of us when I say that the experience was very informative, beneficial and enjoyable with many laughs shared with Nix, who does the training.

I cannot recommend this highly enough’
